Charlotte Mini Code Camp – Portals

Posted by Brian Gough on August 31, 2005

We had a great event at the Microsoft Complex in Charlotte, NC. Speakers Ted Pattison and David Leinenger gave great talks about Sharepoint, ASP 2.0 and Dot Net Nuke. Thank you Doug Turnure-Developer Community Champion for Microsoft for putting this together on such short notice. Once again, thank you Ted and David for making the trip and giving such a great presentation. Yeah, I know, there was no coffee. Sorry. We’ll see what we can do next time. 😉

Naturally, I was most interested in the Sharepoint side and Ted had a lot of great information to share. He covered Portal (SPS) and WSS functionality from an adminstrators POV as well as a developers POV. He provided some very nice insight on how to create Sharepoint web parts with Visual Studio .Net, including a method for creating webparts via Custom User Controls that I think was awesome. I will post what he shared, or a link to it in another posting, if you’re interested.
Hopefully these code camps will become a trend with Microsoft and the Developers Guild. The Guild is planning on hosting a Hands-On-Lab in the not too distant future. Stay tuned for more information!
